Saigon Beer Festival | A Relaxed Weekend Afternoon in Ho Chi Minh City

On Sunday, August 2, I visited the Saigon Beer Festival at Creative Park in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City.

The festival was organized by Saigon Outcast, one of the well-known names behind many lifestyle, music, food, and cultural events in the city.

I arrived at around 5:00 PM, probably one of the best times to experience the event.

The harsh midday heat had already started to soften, the late-afternoon sunlight was falling between the buildings, and Creative Park had that relaxed weekend atmosphere that feels very different from the busy streets usually associated with central Saigon.

A Different Side of Ho Chi Minh City

What I enjoyed most was not simply the beer.

It was the atmosphere surrounding the festival.

Creative Park sits in a rapidly developing part of central Ho Chi Minh City, where modern buildings and open green spaces create a very different cityscape from the traditional streets of District 1.

Around the festival area, young Vietnamese locals were sitting on the grass, having picnics, chatting with friends, taking photos, and simply enjoying a slow Sunday afternoon.

Next to them were rows of white festival tents, beer stands, food stalls, tables, and live music.

The combination worked surprisingly well.

You could sit with a cold beer in your hand while listening to live pop music, watching people relax under the warm summer light with the skyline of Ho Chi Minh City in the background.

For a moment, it did not feel like one of Southeast Asia's busiest cities.

It felt calm, social, and easygoing.

Entering the Saigon Beer Festival

I purchased my ticket online in advance for 90,000 VND.

After showing the ticket at the entrance, I received a festival beer cup and a bottle of water.

Inside, there were many different beer vendors offering a variety of styles and brands.

This was one of the enjoyable parts of the festival because you could walk from booth to booth, see what each brewery was offering, and try something different from the usual mainstream beers available around Vietnam.

There were also food stalls, which made it easy to spend several hours at the event without having to leave the park.

With live music playing in the background and people sitting around the tables enjoying their drinks, the festival had the feeling of a casual outdoor summer gathering rather than a huge crowded commercial event.

One Thing You Should Know Before Visiting

There was one part of the festival that was slightly different from what I expected.

The entrance ticket did not include unlimited beer.

Some beer vendors offered very small samples, usually only enough for a sip or two.

If you wanted a proper glass of beer, you still needed to purchase it separately from each vendor.

So this was definitely not an unlimited beer buffet.

Personally, I would have preferred a system where the entrance fee was slightly higher but included more generous tastings or a certain number of full beers.

That kind of system would probably make it easier for visitors to explore more breweries and compare different styles throughout the event.

Still, once I understood how the system worked, it did not really take away from the overall experience.

The Best Part Was the Atmosphere

The strongest memory I have from Saigon Beer Festival is the feeling of that afternoon.

A cold festival cup in my hand.

Warm sunlight filtering through the tents.

Live music coming from the stage.

People talking and laughing around outdoor tables.

Young locals relaxing on the grass nearby.

And the modern Ho Chi Minh City skyline rising behind everything.

It was simple, but it captured a side of Saigon that travelers do not always get to see.

Many visitors naturally spend their time around Ben Thanh Market, Nguyen Hue Walking Street, Bui Vien, the Central Post Office, or other famous tourist areas.

But joining a local weekend event like this gives you a glimpse of how people actually spend their free time in modern Ho Chi Minh City.

Is Saigon Beer Festival Worth Visiting?

If you enjoy beer, live music, outdoor events, food, and relaxed city vibes, events like Saigon Beer Festival are definitely worth checking out.

I especially recommend them to travelers who have already visited the major tourist attractions and want to experience something a little more local and contemporary.

For foreigners living in Ho Chi Minh City, these festivals are also a great excuse to escape the usual routine, meet friends, and enjoy a slower weekend afternoon without leaving the city center.

Sometimes the best moments in Saigon are not found inside famous attractions.

Sometimes it is simply a sunny Sunday afternoon, live music playing somewhere nearby, and a cold glass of beer in your hand.

That was the real charm of Saigon Beer Festival.
