A Vietnam Beach City Still Underrated by International Tourists

Compared with Da Nang and Nha Trang, Quy Nhon remains a relatively unknown beach destination among international travelers. It felt more like a vacation spot for Vietnamese visitors than a major international tourist destination.

I walked along Quy Nhon’s city beach from around 4 p.m. until sunset. August is part of Vietnam’s summer season, but it also falls within the rainy season. The sky had already turned cloudy, as if rain could arrive at any moment.

The beach stretched for a long distance, comparable to the coastline in Da Nang. Walking its entire length would have taken quite some time. Hotels, restaurants, cafés and shops lined the beachfront. They were not as large or flashy as those in Vietnam’s more famous tourist cities, but there was still enough here to make Quy Nhon feel like a true seaside resort destination.

Some people were swimming or enjoying boating and other activities on the water, while others relaxed at beachfront cafés. Unlike Da Nang or Nha Trang, most of the visitors appeared to be Vietnamese. This gave the area a more natural, local atmosphere and offered a glimpse into everyday life in a Vietnamese beach city.

Looking at a map of Vietnam, you can find many coastal cities of different sizes along the country’s eastern shoreline. Even beyond famous destinations such as Da Nang and Nha Trang, there are many places where travelers can enjoy the romance and peaceful atmosphere of the sea.

I enjoyed watching local residents and visitors slow down and spend their free time by the beach. Discovering lesser-known coastal cities like Quy Nhon is another part of what makes traveling through Vietnam so rewarding.

I would recommend Quy Nhon to travelers who want to experience a quieter beach destination beyond Da Nang and Nha Trang. Because it mainly serves domestic travelers, prices also felt more affordable than in Vietnam’s major international tourist cities. It could be especially suitable for long-term travelers who want to spend time in a peaceful city by the sea.
