Saigon’s Most Beautiful Night – An Evening on Vietnam National Day
Filmed: September 2, 2026
Time: 8:00 PM – 9:30 PM
Location: Thu Thiem Riverside Park, Ho Chi Minh City
September 2, Vietnam’s National Day, is one of those special days when Ho Chi Minh City feels more alive than usual.
As night falls, thousands of people gather along the Saigon River. Vietnamese flags fill the streets, the city lights turn the riverside red and gold, and fireworks transform the familiar Saigon skyline into something completely different.
I filmed this evening from Thu Thiem Riverside Park, looking across the Saigon River toward downtown Ho Chi Minh City. From here, the skyline, landmark buildings, reflections on the river, and the huge crowds waiting for the fireworks all come together in one view.
Unlike New Year’s Eve fireworks, which usually begin around midnight, Vietnam National Day fireworks take place much earlier in the evening. That creates a very different atmosphere. Families with children, couples, groups of friends, and older residents can all come out and enjoy the holiday night together without having to wait until midnight.
For me, this relaxed and lively atmosphere is one of the best parts of Vietnam National Day in Saigon.
One of the Best Places to Watch Fireworks in Saigon
I honestly find it difficult to think of a better place in Ho Chi Minh City to watch the fireworks than Thu Thiem Riverside Park.
Across the Saigon River, the entire downtown skyline opens up in front of you. When fireworks begin exploding above the illuminated buildings, the view becomes something that can only really be experienced in a big modern Asian city.
The lights of the skyscrapers, their reflections on the river, the red glow across the city, and the fireworks in the night sky all become part of the same scene.
It is not simply about watching fireworks. It is about watching Saigon itself become part of the celebration.
The People Were the Most Memorable Part of the Night
Before the fireworks began, people along the riverside were taking photos, talking with friends, spending time with their families, and simply enjoying the holiday evening.
Then the first fireworks appeared and thousands of people looked up at the sky at the same time.
National Day celebrations were taking place in cities across Vietnam that night, but standing beside the Saigon River, what stayed with me most were the relaxed smiles on people’s faces.
For a short time, the whole city seemed to turn into one enormous festival.
There are nights when a city looks beautiful because of its buildings and lights. This night felt beautiful because of the people as well.
Why I Recommend Experiencing Vietnam National Day in Ho Chi Minh City
If your trip to Vietnam happens to include September 2, I strongly recommend experiencing Vietnam National Day in Ho Chi Minh City at least once.
You will see a very different side of the city from an ordinary night. It is also a chance to experience naturally how Vietnamese people spend and celebrate one of their most important national holidays.
The riverside becomes extremely crowded before the fireworks, so I recommend arriving at Thu Thiem Riverside Park at least one hour early. Coming a little earlier is even better. You can walk along the river, watch the city slowly light up, find a good place to stand, and simply enjoy the atmosphere while waiting for the fireworks.
If you happen to be traveling in Vietnam on a night like this, don’t just let it pass by.
The fireworks above the city, the Saigon skyline across the river, and thousands of people smiling beneath the same night sky can become another unforgettable memory from your journey through Vietnam.
